Here are a few tips for common dental emergencies

Toothache or abscess.

  • Rinse your mouth with warm water and use dental floss to remove any food.

  • Use a cold compress for swelling.

  • Take an anti-inflammatory pain reliever.

  • Call your dentist for treatment recommendations.


Cracked or Chipped Tooth.

  • Save and clean the broken pieces.

  • Use gauze if you have any bleeding.

  • Apply a cold compress to the outside of your mouth to help with swelling.

  • Call your dentist, especially if you have pain that could be caused by an injured nerve.


Knocked-out Tooth.

  • Your best chances of saving the tooth is to have it re-implanted within 30-60 minutes.

  • Do not touch, scrub, or use cleaners on the root. Rinse the tooth under cold water

  • If you can, without forcing, reinsert the tooth into the socket until you reach your dentist.

  • If your not able to reinsert the tooth you can place the tooth in a container of milk, place it between your gums and cheek or use an ADA approved emergency tooth preservation product.

  • Call your dentist to re-implant the tooth. The tooth may require a root canal.
